About Joshua Ball
Joshua Ball is a photographer who was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio; a blue collar city that resides in the shadow of industrial Detroit. His brother, Jeff Ball, bought him a film camera as a high school graduation gift in 1999. Joshua spent several years simply shooting photos of friends and family as more of a documentarian than an artist. This experience would eventually lead him into a position as a local nightlife photographer where he specialized in club and event photography. Joshua soon developed an appreciation for fine art and began experimenting with contemporary techniques.
In early 2010, Joshua launched BallMultimedia.com which was designed to be a virtual canvas where he could display his endeavors in the visual arts. The creation of this website would ultimately become the catalyst for his continued efforts to develop a diversified photography portfolio. Joshua is currently pursuing his passion as a freelance photographer in Toledo, Ohio; focusing on fine art as well as portraiture, commercial and event photography.
Joshua has had work published in Lake Eerie Living and American Salon magazines as well as in The Blade and the Toledo City Paper. He currently has a photo on exhibit at the Toledo Museum of Art.
Joshua received an Associate degree in Business Administration from Owens Community College and a Bachelor degree in Electronic Commerce at The University of Toledo. He is also certified as a Quality Process Analyst (CQPA), Quality Auditor (CQA) and Quality Improvement Associated (CQIA) through the American Society for Quality (ASQ).
Artist’s Statement
My underlying mission as a photographer is to grow as an artist and to develop a style that is uniquely my own. In the past, I considered myself to be a creative person with nothing to create. That said, photography has given me a real opportunity to express myself visually. I have grown to appreciate the delicacy of properly depicting a single moment in time and I attempt to deliver images that are representative of the subject while simultaneously distinctive. I am continuously exploring the many facets of photography and I refuse to find complacency in any single style or technique.
The word “art” has no definitive meaning and there have been countless interpretations of its true definition. To me, art is the result of creating something which hasn’t existed before and that is how I approach my photography. Regardless to what I’m shooting, my true objective is to give the world fresh imagery that is unique in both content as well as perspective. In a digital age where photographic devices are abundant and accessible, this has become increasingly difficult. However, this difficulty is where I ultimately draw my inspiration as an artist.
